dc.description.abstractThe aim of this work is to design a wastewater treatment system for Tenería Nuñez, at Totoras Parish, in the city of Ambato. It began with the characterization of effluent samples of fur and vegetable tanning, finding the parameters of turbidity, fats, sulfides, BOD5 and COD for fur, turbidity, BOD5, COD, for vegetable tanning, they exceed the maximum permissible limit that Acuerdo Ministerial 097-A, Anexo de Normativa, Libro VI, Tabla 8 demands. To choose the most appropriate treatment, the biodegradability index was determined, resulting in 0.60 for fur water, and 0.35 for vegetable tanning water, therefore biological and physicochemical treatment can be applied respectively; To achieve this, aeration was carried out for a time range of 16h with the addition of 2% manganese sulfate in order to oxidize sulfides, coagulation with 1% Ferric Chloride (100 ppm), 1% polyelectrolyte anionic flocculant (20 ppm) and sedimentation for 1h for each fur; while, the vegetable tanning water was subjected to precipitation with P24-lime, coagulation with 1% PAC (100ppm), 1% polyelectrolyte anionic flocculant (10ppm) and sedimentation, allowing water to be clarified. The efficiency of the tests was verified by characterizing the treated water in which it was obtained that most of the parameters were within the norm: color, turbidity, conductivity, greases, sulfides, BOD5, COD for both cases. The system consists of: two inlet channels, grids, grease trap, homogenization tank, aeration tank, settling tank, drying beds and a treated water storage tank. It is recommended to manipulate the dosage of chemicals properly for adequate operation.
