Resumen
The aim of this research was to simulate a human phantom to estimate the absorbed dose in organs at risk, using the Montecarlo method in a thyroid cancer treatment. For this purpose, a geometry of the human body was developed specifying the organs considered to be at risk involved in this treatment; initial simulation parameters were defined for the radioisotope iodine-131 and histograms were extracted as well as depth dose profiles. For the simulation, the GAMOS environment was used, which is a GEANT4-based toolkit widely used in medical physics applications. By means of detector arrays, the dose reaching these organs was determined, verifying that the dose limits established by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) are not exceeded, where, for example, for the brain it should not exceed 0.04 mGy and for the eye 0.05 mGy. The values obtained by simulation were brain 0.0058 mGy, eye 0.02 mGy. The use of simulation is recommended as a method of dose determination in the different centres that provide ionising radiation treatment services because the simulation time was approximately 3 minutes, with which a dosimetric record can be obtained for optimisation processes.
