Resumen
The aim of this study was to evaluate whether boar biostimulation is sufficient to stimulate estrus in multiparous sows after weaning. The experimental work was carried out in a group of 12 Topigs Norsvin sows at the end of the weaning period using PG600 and boar exposure to stimulate estrus in two types of treatments. A simple experimental plan was used for two paired samples t-test to compare means. From the stimulation and application date, an estrus detection plan was implemented with visual observation to detect estrus signs such as immobility reflex for insemination at the optimum time of estrus. The number of days open of each one of the sows treated with PG600 and boar exposure was recorded. Estrus after weaning was exhibited within 7.33 + 2.4 days, whereas estrus after weaning with male contact showed significant differences (5.16 + 1.38 days). Likewise, the sexual response of the sows was evaluated in days after exhibiting signs of estrus, presenting immobility reflex within 2 days in the treatment with boar exposure and within 3 days in the treatment with PG600. Regarding fertility, 100% and 66.67% were obtained with boar exposure and PG600 treatments, respectively. Feed intake was lower in sows treated with boar exposure, whereas sows treated with PG600 exhibited a reduction in feed intake. Improved pig lines influence both productive and reproductive levels, avoiding production costs. It is recommended, therefore, to handle genetically improved pig lines with better maternal traits and high productive performance instead of using hormones affecting the animal lifespan.
