Resumen
A study was carried out in 87 people, with the objective of evaluating the metabolic syndrome in patients with non-degenerative chronic diseases at Chanchalito medical dispensary in Salcedo Cotopaxi canton, using the diagnostic criteria of the National Cholesterol Education Program - Third Adult treatment panel (NCEP ATP III), where a socialization on the subject was carried out and the informed consent was signed. During socialization, a survey was carried out to evaluate the risk factors for Metabolic Syndrome (MS), taking blood pressure, anthropometric measurements and taking blood samples for subsequent analysis. Blood serum samples with all biosafety measures were transported to the ESPOCH biochemical and bacteriological analysis laboratory. The analyzes carried out were: determination of glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoproteins (HDL-c) and the calculation of low-density lipoproteins (LDL-c) using the Friedewald formula. For the statistical analysis of the surveys and laboratory analyzes, the SPSS Statistics 25 program was used, applying the chi-square method, the data were tabulated and analyzed. It is concluded that 8.04% of the studied population has metabolic syndrome, 76% of patients have obesity and 22% have elevated triglycerides. It is recommended to carry out training, pharmacotherapeutic follow-up and promote continuous medical check-ups to prevent chronic diseases and premature deaths in the population.
