Abstract
The objective of this research study was to determine the factors that had an impact on self-medication in the people who went to the "San José del Batán" Pharmacy of the Parroquia of Yaruquíes in the period September-December 2018. It should be noted that was carried out through a descriptive cross-sectional study. The experimental group was constituted by those people who attended by medications without a medical prescription. The data were collected through surveys on a sample of 384 people of both sexes between 15-65 years of age. The results showed that the population between 26-35 years were the most self-medicated with a percentage of (29.69%). Self-medication had a prevalence of (100%) in the users of the pharmacy and the main factor corresponded to the lack of economic resources. The ease of acquiring medications; the (61.50%) of the respondents sought the advice of the pharmacy assistant regarding the medicines without a medical prescription. It was concluded that the population that attended the pharmacy, in general, was self-medicated. It is recommended to carry out more studies directed to the recognition of self-medication characteristics with respect to specific and important groups, such as antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and over-the-counter medications, together with drug surveillance investigations that allow establishing an association between these practices and the incidence of adverse drug reactions.
