Resumen
In “Los Leones”, a farm located in Morona Santiago province, Palora canton, in the sector called 16 de Agosto; a study was conducted to evaluate the oregano oil in the preventive treatment of uterine infections of embryo recipient cows separated in two groups of 20 cows each one. These groups; were labelled (T1), which was subjected to the treatment uterine wash, and (T2) which was the control group. All the cows were at an average of 90 days postpartum, also, they were vitaminized and mineralized; then, these cows were subjected to the protocol of oestrus synchronization for embryo transfer. The initial average weight was 456.63 kg of live weight, reaching 495, 5 kg live weight, an initial average body condition of 2.6/5 points reaching 3.23/5 points. The reproductive response of the groups T1 and T2 showed a 100% of presence of oestrus. The T1 group presented 90% of functional corpus luteum vs 65% presented by T2. The percentage of pregnant cows of T1 was 60%, vs T2 reaching 50%, the cost of gestation per cow is lower in the treatment group with $ 119.17 dollars, because there is a higher percentage of pregnant cows compared to the control group whose cost is $129 per pregnancy. It is recommended including oregano oil in the uterine wash of cows into the programs of synchronization of oestrus as future recipients for embryos, since it helps to prevent uterine infections and therefore improve the productive, reproductive and economic parameters of the herd.
