Resumen
The objective of this research was to determine the incidence of Bovine Podal Dermatitis (BPD) in dairy cows belonging to suppliers of the Collection Center of the "Asociación de Agricultores Autónomos Los Manteles", located in the Patate canton, La Matriz parish, La Libertad de Leito community. The experimental units were 100 cows that were in the production stage. For data collection, a field card was used as the main tool, in addition to a survey and a checklist in order to investigate the initial conditions in which the animals were found. The incidence of the disease was determined by using a rule of three, and descriptive statistics were applied to the independent variables. The Chi-square test (χ²) was used to establish whether or not there was a significant statistical association between bovine foot pad dermatitis with respect to the variables under study (place of origin, breed, age, body condition, milk production and number of calvings). The results obtained were 4 positive cases, an incidence of BPD of 3.85 % (4/100) was obtained, considered a low incidence. In the data tabulation it was determined that 2/6 of the variables analyzed presented significant differences, which means that they have an association with foot rot disease, these variables were: "number of calvings" and "milk production liters/day". Podal problems can remain asymptomatic in herds, so it was concluded that control measures should be implemented in the sectors with the highest index of medium and small producers, consequently, a basic manual on BFD was implemented in the study sector as an alternative to minimize and/or prevent it.
