The current research consisted on evaluating the biological effect caused by an artisanal bio fertilizer in cultivated soils with Lactuca sativa L., as an alternative in the use of agrochemicals; this was implemented in Riobamba city. During the experimentation, 50 experimental units were taken and consisting of sterile sand and lettuce seedlings; the ones that were classified into five treatments with ten repetitions each, they consisted on a target control (T), 3 with different bio fertilizer doses (T1, T2, T3) and one with chemical fertilizers (T4). During the plant growing, it was necessary to dose the bio fertilizer every 20 days evaluating the pH, conductivity height, vigor and number of leaves. When finishing the experimental stage, the specimens were collected evaluating their dry weight, fresh weigth, and root length as well as the microbiological and macronutrients (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium and Carbon-Nitrogen Relation C/N) characterization of the soil. Once the result were obtained, it was possible to determine that the most efficient treatment was T3 that was dosed with a 75% of bio fertilizer. It was observed that some parameters like N, P and the microorganisms content were higher than the other treatments, this evidences that the bio fertilizer contributed and allowed the assimilation of inorganic compounds in a higher proportion favoring the plant growing, this is reflected in the dry and humid matter content. It is concluded that a high dose of bio fertilizer would have a positive biological effect on the soil regarding to the use of comercial chemical fertilizers that is why it is an alternative in the use of agrochemicals.
