Resumen
Neonatal morbidity constitutes a public health problem in developing countries like ours, knowledge of its epidemiology allows taking sanitary measures that improve the state of neonatal health. At the moment there is no information on neonatal morbidity in hospitals in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The objective of this study is to determine hospital morbidity in the neonatal service of the Puyo General Hospital during the period 2017 - 2018. Methodologically, it is a cross-sectional, descriptive, descriptive study. The population is composed of 828 neonates who were admitted to the neonatal hospitalization ward. We describe its anthropometric demographic characterization (sex, gestational age, anthropometry and neonatal classification) and clinical characterization (delivery route, APGAR scale and neonatal morbidity). The population was composed mostly of males (53.8%), their mean gestational age was 38.3 weeks. Most of the neonates were born by hospital vaginal delivery, 85.9% of the population had an APGAR of between 7 - 10 at minute 1. The most frequent pathologies were neonatal hyperbilirubinemia (41%), trauma at birth (8.3%) and neonatal depression (7.5%). Research is recommended to delve into the determination of risk factors related to the aforementioned pathologies, as well as the implementation of public health policies that protect neonatal well-being.
