Resumen
The aim of the present degree work was to evaluate the presence of the Burnout syndrome in the resident physicians of the Provincial General Teaching Hospital of Riobamba. Being a subject of relevant importance, this research was conducted to know the incidence of Burnout Syndrome in resident physicians and the association with the sociodemographic variables found in this work. The research is descriptive and explanatory, where the MASLACH questionnaire was applied to assess the existence or not of the Burnout Syndrome in the sample of residents, in which three elements are considered: depersonalization, personal exhaustion and personal fulfillment, It is found that 19 doctors present the syndrome corresponding to 25.3% of the total study population; 11 women are 14.6% and 8 men, representing 10.7%.The results obtained demonstrate the importance of knowing the incidence of this syndrome in the hospital environment, not being a problem outside the medical professional practice. Based on the results, strategies can be developed to mitigate the impact on the daily performance of the medical caregiver and thus efficiently reduce the direct impact with patients. It is recommended to make the diagnosis of Burnout syndrome at the time of admission to the hospital to evaluate later how the work environment influences the appearance of personal exhaustion, depersonalization and how it affects professional performance.
