Resumen
The analysis of the presence of sarcopenia syndrome in older adults is considered of great importance because it is a disease of high prevalence in the elderly, the sarcopenia syndrome is a normal process of the aging process, so it is necessary, know how to prevent or treat it, the objective of the present investigation is to relate the nutritional status, protein intake, physical activity with the syndrome of sarcopenia in older adults of the Geriatric Center MIES Santo Domingo, with a quantitative approach, a cross-sectional study, no experimental, with an analytical method, taking into account age, sex, weight, height, to assess the nutritional status of the BMI, protein intake and physical activity, taking anthropometric measurements for an efficient assessment of the presence of sarcopenia, calf circumference, Fist strength and speed test. The population was 77 older adults of both sexes, of which 22% presented low weight, 40% normal nutritional status, 38% overweight and obesity, 23% sarcopenia. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship of physical activity with the sarcopenia syndrome, the p value = 0.004, the greater the decrease in physical activity, the greater the risk of sarcopenia, it is recommended to coordinate actions between health personnel and those responsible for the center. Implement a prevention program for the syndrome, with proper nutrition and physical exercises.
