The objective of this degree work is to design a tannery wastewater treatment system for the "San Isidro" facility, it was initiated with the characterization of tanning and liming effluent samples, finding the parameters of COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), BOD5 (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), sulfides, sulfates, pH, total and sedimentary solids for liming process, hexavalent chromium, total chromium, pH, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), BOD5 (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), total and suspended solids for tanning exceed the maximum permissible limit that are demanded in TULSMA, Book VI, Annex I, Table 8. In order to choose the most suitable treatment, the biodegradability index was determined for liming which gave the value of 0.72 and for tanning 0.38 defining a Biological and / or physical-chemical and physical-chemical treatment respectively, for this aeration was performed over 6 h with the addition of 5% manganese sulfate at a concentration of 300 ppm in order to be able to oxidize sulfides, coagulation with PAC (Poly Aluminum chloride) at 2% at 70 ppm and cationic flocculant at 10ppm, sedimentation by 2 h and filtration with granular media for liming while the tanning water was subjected to precipitation with lime P- 24, coagulation with PAC (Poly Aluminum chloride) at 2% at 40 ppm and anionic flocculant at 2 ppm, sedimentation and filtration allowing clarification of the water, the efficiency of the tests was verified by characterizing the treated water in which it was obtained that most of the parameters were within the established standard, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and BOD5 (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) for both cases and sulfides did not fall within the regulation standards, however there was a good percentage of removal. The system consists of: two inlet channels, aeration and homogenization tank, sedimentation tank, upflow filters and storage tank for treated water. It is recommended to recirculate water to feed tanning and liming drums, which will optimize this water resource.
