Evaluación de la señalización horizontal y vertical en la Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo, campus Riobamba

Abstract

The objective of the degree work in progress was to evaluate the horizontal and vertical signaling at the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo Riobamba campus to improve mobility within the institution. For the development of this research, it was very important to know the technical specifications of road signage, both vertical and horizontal, focusing on the existing legal regulations, in this case, on the Technical Standard INEN 004:2011 as well as regulations that allow for a better evaluation of the existing road signs on the university campus. For this purpose, the institution's roads and parking areas were analyzed, identifying and evaluating the current conditions of the signage. For the present degree work, we proceeded to segment roads into longitudinal and transversal, in addition to establishing authorized vehicular parking areas for their analysis and detection of problems regarding road signage. It was determined that 38.40% of the existing vertical signs should be replaced and the remaining 61.60% should be removed, since they do not meet the required technical specifications and there is a need to implement 196 new vertical signs. Concerning horizontal signaling, 100% of the longitudinal lines applied in the institution do not comply with the technical specifications determined, in the same way, regarding to transversal lines and other signs, only 32.96% comply with the established technical characteristics, which correspond to road separators, for this reason, it is necessary to demarcate parking areas, intersections, bicycle lanes and lanes in the institution according to the existing legal regulations. It is recommended that the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo implement the horizontal and vertical road signs established in this degree work to improve mobility and road safety in the institution.
