Resumen
The objective of this research was to correlate the metabolic profiles of carbohydrates between sportmen of Federation from Chimborazo sportsmen and students at Intercultural Bilingual Educational Unit "Monseñor Leonídas Proaño", in Riobamba city, province of Chimborazo A descriptive study was conducted. The study population was 101 athletes and 30 students. The informed consent let us know age, weight, height. Blood samples were extracted on which biosafety standards were applied. The biochemical parameter determined was the fasting and postprandial glucose, which was established by the spectrophotometer in the Clinical Analysis Laboratory of Sciences Faculty at Polytechnic School of Chimborazo. The obtained data was tabulated in Excel program, regarding sex SPSS, and discipline before and after the implementation of the exercise. Statistically, the Student's t test was used for two samples assuming unequal variances in order to check if there is a correlation of fasting glucose parameter among athletes and students. With 0.05 significance level, it was obtained the following result. There is a significant difference between athletes and students with (p= 0,004). The most widely practiced disciplines were TAE KWON DO 18.8 % and athletics 17.8 %. 63.7 % of the athletes presented normal values, 35.3 % low values. 98 % of the sportsmen have normal values, and 1 % got high values in BMX discipline. 66.7 % of students presented hypoglycemia, and 58.3 % normal values. It is concluded that there is a difference in blood glucose values among athletes and students. Consequently if there is not an adequate amount of carbohydrates it can cause hypoglycemia considering that they provide energy, but if there are no carbohydrates, the body tries to get that energy from fat producing ketones, which are not good for health.
