dc.description.abstractIn the María farm, located in the canton of tiwintza, province of Morona Santiago, It was proposed to evaluating the use of barbasco (Lonchocarpus nicou) for the control of the louse ( Grilicola porcelli ), in 40 female guinea pigs distributed in three treatments ( 5, 10 and 15 % of barbasco), with 10 replications each ,and they were compared with the control treatments (neguvon). To make the baths of the experimental work was used, 10 liters more water of neguvon (TO) , 9.5 liters of water plus 0.5 liter barbasco (5%), 9 liters water plus 1 liter barbasco (10%) , 8.5 water plus 1,5 liters of barbasco (15%) . The experimental units were distributed under a Completely at Random Design and the statistical techniques were analysis of variance (ADEVA), for the differences between means and separation of means (P<0,05), by Tukey . The results indicate that the application of barbasco (Lonchocarpus nicou ) ,as an external use parasite from day 45,showed absence of parasite load specifically of louse egg and lice , evidencing that T3 (15%), is the best concentration to fight external parasites (lice). The presence of lice totally decreased when using the T3 treatment (15%) since of 526.2 lice at the beginning of the stud and that was presented in T3 treatment, it dropped to 0 units at day 60 of the investigation. The biological behavior of the guinea pig is not altered since final weights were recorded (at 60 days) within the normal ranges with a highest average of 934.5 grams for the T2 treatment (10% barbasco). The cost of deworming with barbasco is lower than that of the commercial product since 0.303 cents of dollar that are invested when using the commercial product ,decrease to 0.279 cents when applying 15% of barbasco.
