Resumen
The purpose of this research was to treat the spent caustic that the results from the desulphurization process in the Esmeraldas refinery layered double hydroxides (LDHs). The LDHs Mg-Al is obtained with carbonate as a precursor anion using the Coprecipitation Method and the LDHs whit the best characteristics are used. When performing the characterization, it is determined that it is sulfuric soda because of it is high concentration of sulfuric compounds compared to the concentration of phenolic compounds. Neutralization is performed using 0.05 N of nitric acid until a pH of 7-8 is reached. A physical treatment know as aeration was performed, to determine it is effect in lowering the concentration of pollutants, 4 repetitions by chemical parameter were performed to determine the average value of each. The best results are obtained when the samples are subjected to aeration prior to contact of the LDHs. Also, the effect that the contact time has on the variation of the parameters was analysed, as well as the optimal contact time. With the data obtained, a statistical analysis was carried out using the Minitab program, for the analysis of variance (ANOVA) in which the treatment with best results is one that is subjected to aeration the use of DLHs and the optimal contact time is 80 minutes, when determining the chemical analysis of the best treatment it present a decrease the phenols (0. 074%). TPH (100%), sulphates (57.45%) and sulphurs (99.8%). Only parameters such as pH and TPH comply with the regulations and other parameters such as electrical conductivity, phenols, sulphates, chemical oxygen demand, sulphides are outside the permissible limit. Therefore, the use of LDHs for the treatment of spent soda is not recommended.
