Resumen
Improving voltage stability is an important issue within the planning and operation of the electrical power system (EPS). In the literature, there are several techniques to determine the reactive compensation required in a system, which directly influences its stability. This paper proposes a reactive power deficit assessment methodology based on static voltage stability methods. The individual operation of these methods has the disadvantage of not providing relevant information to make design decisions. However, this document solves that inconvenience by relating two static methods to make reactive compensation design decisions in parallel. The static methods of sensitivity VQ and QV curves are related in order to determine the weakest bus in the system under study, and the parallel reactive compensation necessary for this bus to operate with a voltage profile of 1.0 [p.u]. The methodology can be applied to any EPS, and to validate it is tested on the IEEE 9 and 14 busbar test systems, subject to the most drastic contingency. The methodology is modelled in Matlab and the results are contrasted with those simulated in the DIgSILENT PowerFactory software.
