The study of three-phase inverters with controlled pulse width modulations at the Salesian Polytechnic University is carried out in a theoretical manner and the concept cannot be verified in a practical way, so the student's learning is not complete.
A three-phase inverter module was developed to control the motor speed of ½ HP of the Power Electronics Laboratory, applying the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM), with an integral proportional controller (PI) and a graphical interface that allows obtaining, monitoring data and understanding the system.
A full wave converter from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) was implemented by means of power rectifier diodes and a capacitor bank allowing the power supply to the three-phase inverter.
The SVPWM modulation algorithm was programmed into dsPIC microcontroller with three-phase motor speed control feature (MC PWM). The PI control algorithm is built into PIC microcontroller. The two controllers exchange data via UART communication protocol and the PIC controller sends data to the graphical interface through USB 2.0 communication.
The SVPWM modulation determines its sequence, trip times and operation in order to obtain three R, S and T lines at the output with the characteristics of a three-phase variable frequency system.
As a whole, the SVPWM module is a project involving power electronics and control systems, which will allow students of the Salesian Polytechnic University to acquire new practical knowledge on these subjects
