This project is done from the need to implement a new process for producing distilled water, in order to use solar energy and get useful data for the development of this type of energy in the country. It will begin with the study of generalities concerning the production of distilled water, types of distilled water and different types of distiller placing greater emphasis on the type booth distiller, as described progress in the development of the thesis will explain in detail the operation of each of the constituent elements of the distiller. To design the solar still is using the SOLAR THERMAL PROCESSES OF ENGINEERING book authors John A. Duffie and William A. Beckman in which there is a comprehensive study of the various parameters involved in the construction of solar still, also in the process designed thermodynamic and heat transfer obtained in the years of study at university knowledge is applied. According to the estimates obtained selecting optimum materials for the construction of the distiller with special emphasis on the thicknesses of insulation to keep heat inside the distiller was made. Once the machine shall be constructed to test the funct ioning in the city of Quito to check the levels of efficiency and amount of distilled water provided by the distiller.
