Resumen
The year 2020 was marked by a pandemic that caused a socioeconomic crisis: high poverty rates were visibly witnessed. In the educational field, the Government created plans and programs for the teaching-learning process to be carried out at home through digital media. These measures lacked political guidelines to solve the social problem, consequently, several students who did not have the technological resources dropped out of the education system. This fact led to the creation of this qualitative case study whose general purpose is to analyze social inequality and educational exclusion in times of pandemic. For this purpose, the ethnographic method was used with observation and interview techniques in a rural neighborhood of the Metropolitan District of Quito. In the field work, we detected not only exclusion due to economic factors, but also students within the system, but excluded from the teaching-learning process and social interrelations in virtual classrooms. These facts made it possible to identify schooling and public policies as means of reproducing social inequality.
