The purpose of the project is to design and build a 15kVA single-phase distribution tank type transformer for the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana - GYE high-voltage laboratory, that allows students in Electrical Engineering career to perform laboratory tests and operate a real transformer that complies with the specifications and technical requirements indicated by the standards INEN (Ecuadorian Standardization Institute) valid for distribution transformers. The electrical calculations, electrical characteristics of the raw material, dimensioning of the windings and core to form the active part are detailed.
The production processes are listed in order to make the manufacturing process of the transformer known. The laboratory tests for the distribution transformers are carried out in a certified laboratory, and the transformer test protocol is issued in order to corroborate the values obtained theoretically with the measurement in the laboratory. This transformer is designed and built to operate in a 15kV class network, either at 6300 V or 7620 V, which is why it is called a switchable transformer. Within the development of this project reference is made to the current INEN standards in order to know the maximum allowed values of vacuum losses and copper, insulation level, transformation ratio. The study is directed to have a real transformer operable in the high voltage laboratory and know each part of the design and construction of it.
