This project describes the design and implementation of an electrical energy
generation system driven by the kinematic movement of the static bicycles in the
gymnasium of the UPS south campus to be used to energize the lighting circuit.
This system has five subsystems: the first is the energy extraction subsystem that is
installed on each bicycle, it incorporates a group of mechanical and electrical devices,
it generates AC electrical energy based on the movement of the front wheel of the
bicycle, then converts it into DC through a power converter; the second is the storage
subsystem composed of a battery bank that accumulates the energy generated; the third
subsystem is the power conditioning subsystem, it is an inverter that delivers 120Vac
at 60Hz to its output; the fourth subsystem performs the excitation of a generator and
presents an interface to the user about the status of the static bicycles; the fifth
subsystem verifies the general status of the system, controls the charge and discharge,
shows with indicators the status of the system and protects the equipment in use; it
allows the energization of the light load to the Gymnasium of the UPS of the south
campus. This document shows the dimensioning of each of the elements, the
calculations performed to obtain the results, the field tests performed on the operation
of the system and the results obtained from this technical project.
