dc.description.abstractIn Ecuador, the Ecuadorian national assembly approved the commercialization, use and consumption of cannabis for medicinal or therapeutic treatment on September 17, 2019, the present investigation aims to collect information on the consumption of Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) for therapeutic purposes such as alternative medicine in the Quito canton in 2020, the methodology used was a descriptive investigation through surveys with a sample of 385 inhabitants with chronic diseases, personnel in charge of the care of chronically ill patients and doctors whoa are between 18 and 70 years of age, additionally the information was contrasted with interviews with experts related to the subject. In the analysis of the results, it is possible to verify the number of cases that have been directly related to the use of medicinal cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.), in the order to improve their quality of life, the benefits, damages and prospects of medicinal cannabis in Ecuador. It is concluded that the use of cannabis should be decriminalized for the purposes: medicinal, therapeutic and paleative, and thus grant a second therapeutic option to the chronically ill of Ecuador.
