This research addressed the issue of non-destructive testing by applying fluorescent
penetrating inks to the welded joints of a 1000-liter kettle at the Perla Andina company,
dedicated to the production of mortiño red wine, in which it was carried out. the analysis and
evaluation of the discontinuities that exist in the welding seams of the upper part of the kettle,
due to the fact that this type of machinery is subjected to long hours of work without
stopping.
The main objective of the research was to determine the discontinuities through preventive predictive maintenance. A methodology with an investigative approach and experimental
scope was proposed. The development of the theoretical perspective will be based on the
review of academic documentation, while the experimental part is carried out in the field
with the application of penetrating fluorescent inks on the machine.
According to the acceptance-rejection criteria AWS D1.1 and ASME SECTION VIII
DIVISION I APPENDIX 8, which establishes the requirements to know if a discontinuity is
accepted or rejected. In the tests carried out, certain indications were found such as: Lack of
fusion, bites, overmounts, pores and nest of pores, these were correctly evaluated under these
criteria.
Through a cost-benefit analysis and social indicators NPV and TIR, periodic preventive
maintenance was compared with corrective maintenance, concluding that it turns out to have
a profitability of 21.10 times higher applying preventive maintenance.
