Resumen
The objective of this research was to analyze,
through six tests, the elastoplastic behavior of
welded connections with square-shaped steel
tubes made up of 60x30x2 and 80x40x3mm G
profiles, subjected to monotonic loading by
experimental analysis of the distortion of the
cross-section geometry of the beam-column
joint elements. It was necessary to design and
manufacture a support frame with a universal
machine load application system in the
materials mechanics laboratory of the
Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS). Each
test consisted of imposing progressive loading
on the upper connection of the gantry, to
measure in displacements and distortion of the
geometry of the connecting elements column
beam of the lower connection. The results
showed that the connection without
reinforcement presents a local fault generated
by excessively concentrated axial force
(punching) that transmits the beam to the
column, which induces a decrease in the
experimental collapse load of the gantry by
approximately 12.82% with respect to the theory. In addition, it distorts the cross-section
of the column in the welded joint and the
formation of the plastic kneecap in said
element. The plates (stirrups) installed in the
column of the welded joint avoids the failure
by concentrated axial force (punching) in the
column and distorts the beam section by
forming the plastic ball joint in the element in
question.
