Resumen
In this investigative work, we will work on elements identified in the Manual for investigative
journalists to identify the techniques of conventional journalism and investigative journalism,
with respect to news handled on a digital platform. In this way, when carrying out the analysis
worked in the investigation, the use of journalism techniques handled in 19 publications of the
newspaper El Telégrafo in the David Piña case is revealed. The investigation was taken from
the beginning of the case on February 27, 2013, where the body of the young Karina del Pozo
is found, and later the decision of the Prosecutor's Office to transfer David Piña to prison No. 4
in Quito on 28 August 2019. This analysis adapts the type of journalism that is carried out on
the digital platform of the newspaper El Telégrafo, which is determined to handle conventional
journalism and does not comply with journalistic investigation techniques, proposed by Mark
Lee Hunter in his book Research from stories. Manual for investigative journalists. In the
theoretical framework, academic works will be identified around the case of Karina del Pozo
where David Piña is located, in addition to the theories of communication, such as the
hypodermic needle and finally the Spiral of Silence.
