Resumen
This paper analyzes a solution to increase the production and quality of coffee of the Rio Intag processing plant, located in the province of Imbabura in Ecuador. According to the criterion of the administrator and the operator at the plant, one of the main production bottlenecks was the first dry grain sorting machine, a three-screen vibrating screens whose efficiency was very low and its operation very abrupt. Several alternatives were considered to correct this problem and it was concluded that the best option is to build a rotating drum sifter.
For this reason, we proceeded to design and simulate the critical parts of this machine that was restricted mainly by the space available in the grain classification section of the processing plant. The mobile elements were also dimensioned according to the torque generated by the gearmotor, because it was greater than the forces generated by the load on the rotary drum.
It was finely determined that the investment would be acceptable, the recovery time of the investment is approximately twelve months, yielding values per year with an NPV acceptable to one hundred percent and an IRR approved for the project.
