Centro de Investigación y Capacitación Rural en Producción Agrícola del Sanatorio Durán (CICRA)

Abstract

The objective of this project is to generate an architectural proposal for an agricultural Rural Research and Training Center in the old Carlos Duran Sanatorium hospital complex (CICRA), which provides tools and training to farmers and producers in the area. It also seeks the rescue of the architectural heritage, rescuing the values of conservation and cooperation to establish itself as a cultural and scientific attraction in the area. The preliminary project is developed within the whole old sanatorium, specifically in the northern sector of the whole place that is unoccupied, taking a part of the building that was demolished and part of the empty areas of the set.

The site is in the division between the road that goes to the Irazú volcano and the street that leads to the Prusia park, which are the two main tourist attractions in the area, which makes the old sanatorium an obligatory stop for tourism. In addition to contributing to farmers and producers in the area, CICRA intends to be a source of income for the maintenance of the old Sanatorium. The CICRA also seeks to empower the farmer and small entrepreneur, seeks to encourage training and improvement in the productive area of agriculture which will provide new opportunities and further development.
