La Piedra del Santo

Abstract

La Piedra del Santo is a place with great natural beauty that has established itself as a milestone and symbol in the identity of the Canton of Pérez Zeledón. The wonderful statue of 12 meters high and the monumental white stone that was around 100 meters high combined, for both, they form the emblematic site that for decades are positioned in the collective and landscape identity of the area. Moments of anguish were lived in 2015, when a lightning struck the statue and it was consumed by fire in its entirety. Its tourist potential was always evident; however, it was never exploited, which is why this proposal raises the recovery of this identity symbol, in order to take advantage of its great relevance and the current momentum that exists for its recovery. The project proposes an ecotourism complex in the immediate surroundings of the stone, where the statue of El Santo will eventually be rebuilt. The Complejo Ecoturístico Príncipe de la Paz de Pérez Zeledón, seeks to contribute to improving the current problems suffered by San Isidro de El General and the Canton through environmentally and friendly architectural responses, which seek the enjoyment and protection of natural environments.
