Resumen
The number of people without teeth is increasing in Brazil, 11% of the population is edentulous, which corresponds to an amount of 16 million people and 33% of the population makes use of some type of dental prosthesis. The number of teeth present in the oral cavity is small, causing social, physical, psychological and nutritional problems to directly affect the quality of edentulous life. The objectives of this study were to perform the sociodemographic characterization, to evaluate and to compare the degree of satisfaction and the impact of oral health on the quality of life of total edentulous patients with total mucosuporated prosthesis and total prosthesis implanted in the city of Macapá - Ap. of total prosthesis and 48 users of total prosthesis implanted through three questionnaires, the Oral Health Impact Profile-14Br (OHIP-14Br), the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for dental prosthesis satisfaction and a sociodemographic questionnaire. For descriptive evaluations, mean and standard deviation were used for the characterization of quantitative variables and absolute and relative frequencies both for the characterization of qualitative and quantitative variables. The study had a greater number of female respondents, 56%, and users of implanted implanted prosthesis had a substantially better family income and higher education level. The time of use of the prostheses, skin color and age did not have statistically significant differences. When performing the evaluation of the satisfaction regarding the type of prosthesis, users of implant-supported prostheses were 100% very satisfied with the upper and lower prostheses and regarding the satisfaction of users of mucosutilated prosthesis, 90% of users reported being satisfied with the superior prosthesis, but 56% showed some dissatisfaction with the lower removable prosthesis. The evaluation of the impact of oral health on quality of life in users of implant-supported prostheses obtained a score of 3.24 points on the OHIP-14Br scale, while users of multisupported prostheses had a score of 15.23 on the OHIP-144Br scale. It was concluded that users of implant-supported prosthesis showed significantly higher level of schooling, higher family income, better quality of life and satisfaction with their prostheses, when compared to users of total prostheses with mucosuported
