Ten years after the eruption of the Chaitén volcano, this investigation investigated life histories of inhabitants who have been surprised with the expulsion from their homes, qualified as uninhabitable by intervention processes and erratic housing policy. From the question, ‘how is the place attachment transformed and articulated with the life trajectories of inhabitants of the southern sector of Chaitén affected by the restriction of residential use because it is an area of volcanic risk?’, life stories, walking interviews and photovoice were made with residents of this territory, analyzing it from biographical-narrative-critical proposals. Three manuscripts were produced. ‘Towards a critical approach to place attachment: a review in contexts of infringement of the right to adequate housing’ answers the question in the theoretical-ontological dimension, developing a problematizing, critical, ethical-political and decolonial proposal. ‘Spatialized subjectivities. Using movement to inquire into the discourse-space relationship in qualitative research’ responds to onto-epistemological and methodological dimensions, deconstructing the time-space, discourse-space, and static-in-movement dualisms. To answer the theoretical-practical dimension, ‘The politics of place attachment: Suffering, obedience, and romantic love toward a precarized territory’, historicizes the tensions between the love of the land and living and being governed in precariousness.
