Resumen
In the last few years many novel and alternative protein purificationprotocols have been designed using immobilized short-peptides orpeptidomimetics as ligands for affinity chromatography. These ligandsare easy to synthesize and less expensive than protein based ligands, suchas monoclonal antibodies or protein A, thus enabling low-cost industrialpurification processes. Many of these peptide ligands have been selectedfrom the screening of combinatorial peptide libraries. Those peptides withaffinity for the target proteins are immobilized on chromatographicsupports and their performance for selective target protein purification isassessed. This chapter is structured around three parts: a) strategies used to designshort-peptide and peptidomimetic affinity ligands; b) methods toimmobilize those ligands on chromatographic supports and c)applications of the affinity matrices developed.
