Resumen
The activation of molecular oxygen is important in diverse areas from respiration chain in biology to metal corrosión in materials science and energy conversion in fuel cells and energy storage in metal air batteries.(1-4) Non aqueous metal-air batteries using alkali and alkaline earth metal anodes offer very high energy densities. The cathode active material, oxygen, needs not be storaged in the battery and is supplied from the environment.(5) Oxygen reduction in polar aprotic solvents is very different from aqueous solutions, and strongly depends on the electrolyte solvent pair.(6)
