Resumen
Plant extracts and phytochemicals evidenced the capacity to prevent some diseases associated with oxidative stress and advanced glycation end product (AGE) formation. • Polyphenols are the main group of compounds with anti-AGE activities and the published scienti c evidence is presented. • The ability of polyphenols to prevent AGE formation depends on their structure (phenolic acids, avonoids, and stilbenes). • Terpenoids (terpenes and carotenoids) have gained relevance as potential anti-AGE agents in recent times. • This review focuses on the potential of plant-derived products to develop medicines for treating diseases at a lower cost and toxicity than synthetic antiglycant pharmaceutical agents.
