Independent theatre in Tucuman has given itself that name since the 50’s to highlight its autonomy in esthetics and economic resources as opposed to theatrical activity carried out by the State. Nevertheless, numerous ways of production, scenic formation and award giving experiences organized by varied State institutions show its important role in the dynamics of independent theatre. This article looks into the possibilities of ethnographic method in order to explain the discontinuous, separate and, yet, intense effects of State’s institutions in artistic consecration of independent theatrical activity. At last, the concept of ‘artistic consecration’ is argued looking into recent debates occurred in the field of sociology of culture.
