Leer bibliografía es un requisito generalizado en las materias del nivel superior en Argentina. Sin embargo, no siempre es objeto de enseñanza a través del trabajo sobre lo leído en forma conjunta entre profesores y alumnos. En consecuencia, los docentes muchas veces desconocen de qué manera sus estudiantes se aproximan a los textos y los interpretan, quedando al margen de poder orientarlos e intervenir en sus dificultades de comprensión antes de las evaluaciones. Por otra parte, los alumnos suelen otorgar gran importancia a lo que se habla y hace en las clases; prueba de ello es su toma de notas para registrar lo que allí se dice y ocurre. En este capítulo, basándonos en resultados de una investigación etnográfica, mostraremos a través de las experiencias de estudiantes de un profesorado en Historia que existe una relación entre cómo los docentes incluyen (o no) la lectura en las clases y los modos de leer y utilizar las notas que toman. Analizaremos dos asignaturas contrastantes, según sus profesores priorizan la enseñanza monológica o dialógica en torno a los textos. En el primer caso, los alumnos leen en forma reproductiva, o bien no leen y estudian tan sólo de sus apuntes de clase. En el segundo caso, en cambio, los estudiantes buscan leer interpretando por sí mismos y utilizan sus notas no como producto final del cual estudiar, sino como un material complementario que les permite reinterpretar lo leído. Estos resultados ayudan a comprender cómo la enseñanza incide en las formas en que los alumnos estudian según se haga lugar o no al trabajo con la lectura en el aula.
