Resumen
Lessingianthus H. Rob. pertenece a la tribu Vernonieae y reúne 133 especies distribuidas en Sudamérica. Este género es considerado como un grupo natural relacionado morfológicamente con los géneros Chrysolaena H. Rob. y Lepidaploa (Cass.) Cass. Sin embargo, la circunscripción de estos géneros es compleja debido a la superposición de numerosas características morfológicas. El análisis de secuencias nucleares y cloroplásticas es útil para tratar la filogenia de la tribu demostrando que los taxones se relacionan más por su distribución geográfica que por su taxonomía. Sin embargo, no se han realizado estudios a nivel genérico con mayor detalle y distribuciones geográficas más restringidas. Nuestro objetivo fue conocer las relaciones entre las especies de Lessingianthus y con los géneros afines para evaluar su monofilia, mediante el análisis de regiones nucleares (ITS1-ITS2 y ETS) y cloroplástica (ndhF) utilizando el software BEAST. Los resultados muestran que los ITS fueron más resolutivos que los ETS, y la resolución filogenética usando sólo secuencias de cpDNA fue poco informativa. Los tres géneros están estrechamente relacionados, Lessingianthus no sería monofilético y sus relaciones intragenéricas no responden a una distribución geográfica
