Resumen
La huelga ferroviaria de 1917 ha tenido diversos tratamientos por parte de historiadores. En el presente artículo nos enfocamos sobre este conflicto pero para ajustar la lente sobre un aspecto singular: la presencia y participación de mujeres en los episodios vinculados a la protesta ferroviaria. Detectadas en muy pocas investigaciones, las mujeres cumplieron un rol activo y fuertemente perturbador para los observadores de la época. Si bien este hallazgo puede resultar por sí mismo un dato interesante y hasta anecdótico, nos parece que no debe agotarse allí nuestra exploración. La participación de las mujeres debe analizarse en el marco de la original constitución de la identidad de los trabajadores ferroviarios dentro de la cual no jugaron un papel menor las particularidades de la propia labor en los ferrocarriles, los vínculos entre empresa y trabajadores - las políticas empresarias de gestión de mano de obra- y las tradiciones de resistencia y lucha del colectivo obrero. Asimismo, sus acciones deben ser explicadas dentro de un imaginario social que les asignaba un lugar natural en el ámbito doméstico como garante de la armonía familiar. Dicho rol fue percibido en una situación de riesgo y al calor de la confrontación social fue necesario redefinirlo aunque sin romper con sus lineamientos originales.
