Resumen
Los socio-ecosistemas son sistemas complejos, en los que funciones, procesos y relaciones evolucionan y se interrelacionan. Por un lado, las acciones humanas afectan los ecosistemas y, por otro, estas modificaciones ecosistémicas repercuten en las sociedades. Para abordar esta relación con un enfoque integrado que abarque perspectivas ecológicas, económicas y sociales, surgió en la agenda política internacional el enfoque de los servicios de los ecosistemas (UN, 2005). Los servicios ecosistémicos son definidos como aquellos beneficios directos e indirectos que los ecosistemas bindan a las sociedades y contribuyen al bienestar humano (UN, 2005, Díaz et al., 2006, Montes, 2007). Los estudios realizados han clasificado a los servicios en tres categorías fundamentales: de abastecimiento (aquellos que provienen directamente del ecosistema:
alimentos provenientes de la pesca, agricultura, entre otros), de regulación (aquellos que se derivan del funcionamiento del ecosistema: clima, hídrica, sedimentaria) y culturales (aquellos generados a partir de la experiencia: ocio y recreación, identidad, entre otros) (UN, 2005, Maas et al., 2005, Fisher y Turner, 2008).
