Resumen
In order to improve the reliability, durability and performance of the metal components for advanced high temperature motors, gas and aeronautics turbines, there have been developed thermal isolation layers using generally yttria stabilized zirconia and some other materials that meet the requirements: high melting point, low thermal conductivity, thermal expansion coefficient similar to the metal substrate, low rate of sintering, inert to oxidizing and corrosive agents, excellent adhesion to the metallic substrate, high hardness, and fracture toughness. Two of the materials that were found superior in these properties are those presenting perovskite type structure and pyrochlore type structure, and further found that by joining both have even better properties. The gadolinium zirconate (Gd2Zr2O7, GZO) and the gadolinium aluminate (GdAlO3, GAO) are an example of these materials, as they fulfill most of the requirements, and in the case of GAO presents ferroelasticity and owns thermoluminescent properties. In this research there were synthetized the pyrochlore GZO – perovskite GAO system, in 50-50 % mol and 70-30 % mol ratios, and the pure phases, through different conditions of the coprecipitation – calcination route, and characterized by some techniques for the determining properties. The reverse coprecipitation – calcination route was ideal for obtaining the pure phases and compounds. GZO and GAO were found at temperatures of 800 and 900 °C, respectively, and the 50-50 % mol and 70-30 % mol compounds at 1100 and 1200 °C, respectively. In the pure phases and compounds high homogeneity in the elemental chemical distribution were found, and in the last ones was observed no significant single phase agglomeration.
