Resumen
The present investigation studies maintenance management models and improvement tools with the objective of improving the changing process toward a worldclass maintenance management. The development of an improvement cycle and a performance survey based on the combination of several techniques and approaches is the principal outcome of this investigation.
As we know, in today’s global economy, only those companies which are capable of permanent and fast adaptation to quickly-changing conditions can survive. In order for them to remain competitive and maintain maximal efficiency and availability of all its plants y processes, what is needed is an approach different from the traditional concept of maintenance, which is very commonly regarded as a necessary drawback, and change that concept into a competitive enhancer.
This approach must be extensive so that it takes in account several areas of the maintenance management field. These areas should include a continuous auditing process, benchmarking and Value Stream Mapping, a combination of Total Productive Maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance and Business Centered Maintenance. The combination of these tools and good communication skills will provide the maintenance engineer with the core basis needed to guide its maintenance organization into a worldclass one.
