With the techniques of interferometry, the quality and detail of the images obtained matches and sometimes surpasses those obtained in other windows of the electromagnetic spectrum. In this article, we briefly review the beginnings of radio interferometry and describe the characteristics of ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/Sub-millimeter Array, the instrument that is expected to revolutionize our understanding of the origin of planets, stars, and galaxies
