Abstract

Desde el descubrimiento de la plata, las civilizaciones se han asombrado de su belleza. Éste es el metal precioso más abundante en la corteza terrestre y es un material de atractivas propiedades físicas y químicas que ha impactado la historia del hombre debido a la gran variedad de aplicaciones que se le han encontrado. Éste artículo relatará los diversos usos de este metal en antiguas civilizaciones y en la sociedad contemporánea. Finalmente, se analizan los potenciales usos y aplicaciones futuros y se deja a la reflexión la posición que debe asumir México como productor numero uno de éste metal

Since the discovery of silver, entire civilizations have been astonished by its beauty. Silver is the most abundant of the precious metals in the earth’s crust and it is a material that has impacted the history of human kind due to its exceptional physical and chemical properties and the variety of applications in which it has been used. This article focuses on the different uses of silver in ancient civilizations and contemporary society. Furthermore, future applications and potential uses are analyzed, and the position that Mexico must assume, as the number one silver producer, is left for reflection
