<p>Se estudia la importancia y el papel decisivo que cumple la presencia del “área de recursos humanos” en las Pymes. A pesar de lo que revelan las prácticas deficientes de un porcentaje significativo de Pymes en Colombia (30%), este artículo muestra primero las razones que justifican la existencia de esta área. Luego estudia las dificultades que surgen de la ausencia de esta área en una empresa. Finalmente estudia sus funciones específicas, mostrando cómo éstas se entretejen con -y afectan a- todos los niveles de la dinámica empresarial. El artículo busca poner en evidencia tanto las ventajas, en caso de existencia, o los prejuicios, en caso de ausencia, que saca una empresa si cuenta o no con esta área de recursos humanos</p>It is studied the importance and the decisive role played by the presence of "the human resources department" in Pymes. Despite poor practices of a significant percentage of Pymes are shown in Colombia (30%), this article first shows the reasons that justify the existence of this department. It then studies the difficulties emerging of the absence of this area in a company. Finally it studies his specific tasks showing how these functions are intertwined and affect all levels of the business dynamics. The article seeks thus to show both the advantages, in case of existence, or prejudice, in case of absence, which draw a company whether it has o does not has a human resources department
