Resumen
This paper presents a tool that has been employed for the process of teaching
mathematics learning in basic education. A historical overview is presented of mathe-
matical modeling in Brazil and its connection with the Ethnomathematics, highlighting
the use of mathematical modeling in mathematics teaching in the classroom, pointing
steps for the use of modeling, following the ideas of Hein e Biembengut (2003); Bassanezi
(2002); Barbosa (2001a). Besides the application of this tool in math classes with students
of the State School 13 de Maio, at Tangar ́a da Serra/MT, whose results were reported at
the end of this work.
