“Manda nudes?” : imagens íntimas e as representações de gênero na mídia brasileira

Abstract

In a growing universe of shared images on websites and social networks, in which its users are constantly producing and sharing more content, this paper intends to comprehend how the unauthorized disclosure of pictures that are produced in an intimate settting and are spread on the internet have created a social reality and how this is represented in Brazilian journalism. Through analyzing news that was researched from two great communication portals, new processes of production from a recent cultural category will be identified and the power relations involved in the layers of sexuality and gender relations. Our hypothesis is that exposing these erotic images on the internet can be a form of violence against women related to assymmetrical gender values and sexuality. In this context, media presents different journalist views which give meaning to new social practices that reaffirm traditional representations of gender or critically transform traditional models of gender relations and morality.
