Resumen
Theoretical and experimental study of inorganic crystals is an interdisciplinary subject that have been attracting intense research and development due to both the fundamental and applied scientific value. Molybdates matrix exhibit interesting structural, optical and photoluminescence properties, such as layered nature, wide visible emission range and efficient energy transfer to activating ions. The Bi3+ ion as counterion of the matrix exhibits charge, radius and coordination sphere similar to trivalent rare-earth ions commonly used for doping these inorganic semiconductors, besides not being toxic to humans or the environment. This research presents a bibliographic review on structural, morphological and photoluminescent properties of pure and Europium doped crystals of Bismuth Molybdate and their applications as LED phosphors and catalysts for photodegradation of organic molecules.
