Análise de travessia de pedestres e ciclistas em passarelas: um estudo de caso na RSC-287/Av. Roraima

Concerning the characteristics of the urbanization process of the Brazilian cities, it is essential for the employment of planning and organization methods. This engagement aims to minimize disadvantages arising from the relationship between the country’s large fleet of vehicles and all other means of transportation. In this context, pedestrians and cyclists are the most vulnerable in terms of safety and, therefore, should be contemplated with tools that help to preserve their movement areas on the streets and roads. Also, as more numerous situations of the disagreement between different vehicles flow, more impaired is the good functioning of the highways. These characteristics were observed in the intersection between the RSC-287 highway and Roraima avenue in Santa Maria- RS, at the pedestrian and cyclist crossing site, near the UFSM Campus. Aiming to solve these problems, this work was developed through a case study to analyze the necessity and the feasibility of implementing a walkway crossing. A quantitative survey of on-site traffic volume and a qualitative survey of all physical and functional characteristics of the current crossing were performed. The results showed that the installation of a walkway crossing would be following the criteria established by the bibliography studied and would bring benefits to pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers of vehicles passing through this area. Also, the installation would contribute in favor of safety and the good functioning of traffic in general. Moreover, it has also been shown the presence of necessary attributes in the site to ensure that the structure would be efficient and used by all.
