A criança e o autismo a partir do olhar dos pais – uma revisão de literatura

Introduction: From the DSM V, the new nomenclature used for the diagnosis of
autism becomes Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), referring to different disorders
of child development. The ASD demands broader discussion in which parents
should be listened to. Objectives: Understand the child's perception of parents in
writing about their autistic children. Methods: This is a literature review,
qualitative, content analysis, observational, transversal, descriptive. Nine reading
sheets from selected books, completed by Occupational Therapists, were
analysed. The books were selected based on inclusion criteria: must be written
by parents about their autistic children in the last five years. Books that could not
be acquired were excluded. Results point to the struggle of parents getting their
children diagnosed with autism and this diagnosis was late compared to the
possibility of an early intervention. Parents questions the delay of pediatricians
on referral to specialized clinicians. Facing the treatments parents criticize the
orthodox psychoanalysis and the rigor of the ABA method - they claim that the
method had positive effects on the acquisition of abilities, but that this method
should be more humanized. Parents advocate a place and right of their children
in a society less prejudiced and less charged on social attitudes. It is concluded
from the analysis of the reading cards that it is possible to perceive the parents'
perception in the writing about the autistic children and that they should listen,
and their knowledge is valued, reflecting the therapists on their future practices.
