In the field of engineering and exact sciences, there is a constant demand for experimental
verification of control strategies, modulation schemes, among other aspects. Process control
projects and tests are difficult tasks that can discourage students from working in the field due
to the steep learning curve. Modern approaches to control systems education use simulations
and experiments to facilitate the learning process. However, environments such as university
labs do not have the high financial resources needed to purchase these solutions. The need versus the difficulty of acquisition motivated the creation of a low-cost HIL platform for simulating
generic linear systems capable of performing the same or at least the main functions of commercial equivalents. This work presents the stages of design, simulation, and experimental tests
of hardware and software implemented in microcontrollers, for the generic implementation of
up to second-order systems. Likewise, the final assembly steps of the electronic product developed and the experimental validation with a computer of the mathematical models simulated
in discrete-time and sending the data to the system to be simulated are also explored. After
demonstrating the validations, the results obtained are discussed.
